Merge two logs with a review trail.
Use this bench when two logger exports may contain some of the same contacts. It compares two files on your device and offers possible pairs for review. It never edits the source files.
Start with independent backups
Export an ASCII .adi or .adif copy from each logger and keep your original exports. Choose them as Log A and Log B, then select Compare logs. The original files remain on disk. A reset or page refresh discards the in-memory review.
Review each possible pair
Candidates share a callsign, band, mode and submode, with valid UTC timestamps within your selected window, from the same timestamp to 120 seconds apart. Changing the window clears previous decisions and requires a fresh comparison. These are clues, not proof of one contact. Repeated contacts, station location changes and logging practices can make similar records legitimate separate QSOs. Read the matching rules and their limits.
Select a candidate to inspect all fields. A field found in only one contact is preserved during a merge. If both contacts contain different values or type indicators, choose Log A or Log B for that field. Merge with selected fields is available only after those choices. Keep both contacts also undoes a previous merge.
Export a new copy
Undecided candidates keep both records. Resolve any conflicting custom header fields before export. Download both the new ADI and the JSON manifest. The tool reparses the ADI before download and checks that input contacts equal output contacts plus explicitly merged pairs.
For the synthetic example, six input contacts produce six output contacts by default. Merging the W1AW pair produces five outputs and one merged pair. Merging the exact VE7ABC pair as well produces four outputs and two merged pairs. These are demonstrations, not real operating records.
Read the focused guides
- Copy a complete midnight merge example with exact output mappings
- Check a merged copy before importing into your logger
- Exact matches, near matches and uncertain contacts
- Resolve field conflicts without guessing
- Unknown fields, headers and export conservation
- Review a private station log locally
Before importing into your production logger, inspect the manifest and import the new ADI into a separate test log if your logger supports one. No award, upload-service or logger acceptance is certified by this tool.
